PortaPac Series FAQ'S
How
loud are the PortaPac Units?
The PortaPac units are designed
for indoor and outdoor use applications and we use
advanced compressor technology to further reduce mechanical
noise. The blowers or fans are all reciprocating type
and reduce the air noise of the unit. There is no
dB rating for the PortaPac series because there are
to many variables involved with this unit.

Does
the unit make water? What happens with the condensate?
Yes, the PortaPac Series are
true air conditioners and some moisture is removed
from the air which results in condensate. The condensate
collects in a pan and is then pumped out of the unit
through a condensate pump.

How
often will I need to empty the tank?
There is no tank on the PortaPac
Series, but there is a condensate pump to discharge
the condensate to a drain line. Condensate generation
is based on various temperature and humidity levels
as well as user installation and control settings.
In the warm, humid summer months the amount of condensate
generated will be greater than in the cool, dry winter
months.

How
large is the condensate tank?
Again there is not a tank but
a condensate pump. The water will collect in
a condensate drain pan with-in the PortaPac unit,
drain into the pump reservoir and from there the condensate
is pumped out of the unit through 3/8" vinyl
tubing. Now you can run your condensate line
to a drain, sink or to the outside.

What
if I need to run my PortaPac unit 24/7?
The PortaPac unit has a built-in
condensate pump that can be used to allow continuous
uninterrupted cooling. The pump has a 20 lift
capability which will get you up to the drop ceiling
level and allow for connection to a drain line.

How
long can the condensate line be?
The PortaPac unit
has a built-in condensate pump that comes with enough
3/8" plastic tubing to reach outside the unit
through the knock out hole. You may require
more tubing than what is supplied with the pump.
You can either attach the new section of tubing to
the supplied tubing with a coupler or purchase a new
section of tubing to fit the required length of your
condensate drain line. You can go as far as
you need to with the tubing as long as you keep the
tubing sloping down at an angle. Again if you
need to go a long distance to your drain then we recommend
that you go up as much as you can (up to 20') then
go towards your drain with the tubing sloping down
at an angle.

Do
I need to vent the unit to the outside?
No, you do not need to vent the
PortaPac unit to the outside. If you are cooling an
enclosed equipment environment you do need to discharge
the condenser air (warm air) out of the space you
are trying to cool. The warm air duct attaches to
the back of the unit with the quick connect flange
that will allow for condenser air discharge into the
ceiling plenum area or through a wall. You may
also set your PortaPac unit outside and duct the cold
air into the room.

How
far can I duct the unit?
The warm air duct is an option
for the PortaPac unit, but the length of duct you
can have for the condenser air is a maximum of 50'.

What
kind of maintenance is required?
Unit maintenance is quick and
easy. The PortaPac series has a totally sealed refrigeration
system. It should not be necessary to recharge your
unit. The only regular preventative maintenance is
cleaning the two filters. You want to make sure that
you keep the drain line clear on the condensate pump.

What
do I need to do if I am going to store the unit?
Before storing the unit you want
to ensure the evaporator coil is dry and the condensate
is emptied from the unit. First you would operate
the PortaPac unit in the fan mode for about 5 minutes
to dry out the evaporator coil and get all the moisture
off of the coil. Make sure the condensate is emptied,
turn off the unit, and wipe down the cabinet with
a soft cloth and mild detergent. Your PortaPac unit
will be in prime shape when your next cooling need
arises.

PortaPac Series
Application FAQ'S
How
large of an area can I cool with the PortaPac Series?
That depends on
what is in the area you are trying to cool. All air
conditioning units are rated in BTU, or British Thermal
Unit, which is a unit of measure. There are 12,000
BTU to 1 ton of air conditioning. For equipment cooling
we need to determine the amount of power being used
by the equipment in the room so we can do a basic
heat load calculation.
TOP
OF PAGE
How
cold can I get my room?
There is no way
to tell. The PortaPac unit will give you approximately
a 20°F temperature differential for instance,
if your room is 80°F, the unit will deliver approximately
60°F air. This does not mean that your room will be
60°F. . . that all depends on the heat load in the
room.

Can
I put the PortaPac unit on my UPS?
We do not recommend
that you operate the PortaPac unit using on a UPS.
TOP
OF PAGE
Can
I plug into an extension cord?
The PortaPac is
hard-wired and we do not recommend that you operate
the PortaPac unit using an extension cord.
TOP
OF PAGE
Do
I need a dedicated circuit to run the PortaPac unit?
The PortaPac unit
is a mechanical device and could potentially put noise
onto the line when the compressor starts and stops.
A dedicated line is not required but would certainly
be recommended if your computer and electronic equipment
is not protected by a UPS or surge suppresser.
TOP

What
other accessory items do I need for my application?
The PortaPac has
many options and accessories to keep your hot spots
cool.
TOP
OF PAGE
Who
can I get to install my PortaPac unit?
The PortaPac unit
is designed for quick set-up. A local contractor
or electrician would be able to install your PortaPac
unit by providing the proper electrical power and
connecting the unit to the power supply. You
may also require the services of a handyman or plumber,
depending on the location of your condensate drain
line for your condensate pump.
